Fasting Guidelines

Morning Operations:
No solid food or milk from 2.30 am. Clear fluid can be given up till 6.30 am. For children less than six months of age they need to have their last breastfeed finished by 5.30 am however if they are taking formula feeds this needs to be completed by 4.30 am.

Afternoon Operations:
A light breakfast to be completed by 7.30 am. Clear fluid can be given up till 11.30 am. For children less than six months of age they need to have their last breastfeed finished by 10.30 am however if they are taking formula feeds this needs to be completed by 9.30 am.

** Clear fluids include water, glucose-based drinks, cordials and clear juices

 

Admission Times

These times are a guide only you should have received paper work from the office confirming them or a telephone call from the appropriate hospital.

Royal Children’s Hospital morning operations require patients to arrive by 7.15 am while those children having surgery in the afternoon need to arrive at 12 noon.

Patients having surgery at Box Hill Hospital, Mitcham Private Hospital or the Monash Medical Centre will receive a telephone call regarding the appropriate admission time.
